Suzaku Games Tease New Character Uesugi Kaho with Story that “Will Definitely Give You New Chills!”

Suzaku Games Usesugi Kaho

Suzaku Games have teased a new project with new character Uesugi Kaho; either a new game or new content for Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story.

Following an initial teaser via the developer’s Twitter account- showing Mei-Lin and Maiko of Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story in front of a Chinese New Year-themed door- Suzaku Games later revealed it was a new character; Uesugi Kaho.

However, how this character is being used is unknown. While it is likely to be new content for Sense, this is not outright confirmed. The tweet reads “We are excited to introduce you all to Uesugi Kaho! She may not have Mei’s eyes but her story will definitely give you new chills! We can’t wait to tell you all about Kaho soon!”

The fact Kaho does not outwardly appear to have cybernetic enhancements like most other characters in Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story may mean she is not a character in that game.

We reached out to both Suzaku Games and the publisher of Sense, Top Hat Studios. The latter replied to us with the following statement.

“We have not been informed by Suzaku of any plans for new games or projects, but we do not know if this is because they are simply at too early stages or if they have other plans than to work with us. We would be interested in the opportunity of publishing their next games, however.”

This would seem to suggest that Kaho is from a new game; but it is not impossible that she is DLC that Suzaku Games have yet to discuss with Top Hat Studios. We shall keep you informed as we learn more.

As previously reported, a report on the Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story Nintendo Switch release drew attention to it. Some objected to the game’s artstyle- a dystopian cyberpunk future where hyper-sexualization and body modification was commonplace- to the degree false information was spread. This included that the game was “encouraging violence,” and featured illegal content.

Publisher Top Hat Studios struck back, denying the claims and stating they “categorically refuse” to censor the game. They also revealed that they and developer Suzaku had received death threats.

The statement was applauded by those against censorship and “cancel culture” in the video games industry, yet some doubted their claims of abuse were legitimate. This lead to them releasing the abusive messages and gaslighting from industry-adjacent people” publicly.

In other recent news, the game recently came uncensored to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5; the latter via backwards compatibility.

Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story is available on Windows PC, Linux, Mac (all via Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, and January 7th on Nintendo Switch. In case you missed it, you can find our review here (we recommend it!)
