Yosuke Saito Yoko Taro are Working on Two New Nier Games

Yosuke Saito Yoko Taro Two New Nier Games

Nier series producer Yosuke Saito, and series director Yoko Taro are working on two new Nier games.

GamesTalk reports (translation: DeepL, adjusted) that during the “Game World Well-Behaved Meeting 2020 Year-End Party” livestream hosted by V-Jump and Famitsu (thanks SiliconEra), the pair revealed they were working on two new Nier games.

Saito explains that Yoko proposed the idea for one of the game’s around one year ago, but at the time Saito said “I don’t want to do it at all.” Taro was persistent however, and argued for three hours and gave an hour long presentation to convince Saito. Saito’s enthusiasm eventually made him accept the project.

Saito reportedly said that even now he is reluctant to work on the game, and would quit if he could. Without access to the paywalled live-stream archive, it is tricky to tell the context behind these comments (such as if Saito was joking).

In any case, the pair also stated that the other game will be released first. We will keep you informed as we learn more.

In earlier news, publisher Square Enix has announced total sales for NieR: Automata have reached five million copies.
