Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Sephiroth Presentation Premieres December 17

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Nintendo have announced Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai will host a presentation on DLC character Sephiroth.

The presentation (as stated in the tweet and image above) will broadcast December 17th at 2:00 p.m. PT/5:00 p.m. ET. The presentation will include more information on how Sephiroth plays, and a release date for the DLC character.

As previously reported, Sephiroth is the main antagonist if Final Fantasy VII, and one of the strongest members of SOLDIER- a super-soldier program enhancing the subject’s physical capabilities through Mako.

When Sephiroth learned of his origins however, he was driven mad. He became hellbent on calling down Meteor, creating enough damage to the planet to tear-open the lifestream and become a god.

In the announcement trailer, Sephiroth utilized a combination of fast strikes and magic to keep foes on their toes, and can further take on a one-winged angel form to amplify the speed and power of his strikes. The exact mechanics of Sephiroth’s playstyle will likely be explained in more depth by Sakurai, along with new Mii Fighter costumes.

There is already an existing Final Fantasy VII stage thanks to Cloud, however the stage’s music selection was noticeably anemic compared to other stages. It is likely Sephiroth will bring more Final Fantasy VII music, along with a new stage based on the lifestream. We will likely hear more information on this as well.

Sephiroth launches December 2020, and will also be part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 along side Min Min.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for Nintendo Switch. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough review for the game here (we highly recommend it!)
