The Game Awards 2020 are scheduled for a December 10th airing date, news confirmed today by The Game Awards staff.

The annual awards show is set to broadcast in over 45 global video platforms, and will be available in 4K from studio locations with no actual in-person audience, in Los Angeles, Tokyo, and London. All three host cities will be digitally connected to feature a celebration with live award presentations, premiere game announcements, and musical performances.

“In 2020, video games have connected and comforted us more than ever, and that makes the 2020 edition of The Game Awards our most important show ever,” said Geoff Keighley, creator/producer/host of The Game Awards. “Our team is working hard to deliver an innovative and thoughtful program that celebrates excellence, previews the future, and amplifies important voices that are shaping the future of this medium.”

This year The Game Awards will present a new award for “Innovation in Accessibility,” which will recognize “recognizes software and / or hardware developers that are pushing the medium forward by adding features, technology, and content to help games be played and enjoyed by an even wider audience.”

As there will be no in-person audience, viewers and streamers will be able to virtually interact and participate with the awards show on social media, interactive extensions on platforms like Twitch, and even via live in-game experiences. Further details are coming later.

The awards show will also be a launching period for a weekend of immediately accessible game content including demos, livestreams, in-game drops and rewards, special discounts across the major console platforms and PC platforms, and more. The Game Festival will also come back to Steam for a limited time with new playable demos for upcoming games from AAA studios and indie developers as well.
