Bloomberg report that Nintendo are telling developers to produce games that are “4K-ready,” likely meaning a more powerful Nintendo Switch is in production.

We previously reported on rumors of a more powerful Nintendo Switch being in production (a so-called “Nintendo Switch Pro” model) that will allegedly support 4K graphics. It would allegedly launch early next year, and boasts being “interactive and has better picture quality” (translation: Google Translate), and with a “slew” of new games from Nintendo and third party studios.

While rumors of a more powerful Nintendo Switch model have been happening since 2018 [1, 2, 3], these fresh claims come from Bloomberg and their sources. Their report was focused on Nintendo Switch production increasing by 20% (up to 30 million units this fiscal year).

This is to meet demands due to the runaway success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the coronavirus pandemic and quarantine increasing the demand for gaming. Bloomberg discussed how the Nintendo Switch Lite in late 2019 helped bring the console to more audience, along with their sources from late August claiming the 4K Nintendo Switch was coming 2021 with games.

Bloomberg now report from “several outside game developers,” who wished to remain anonymous, that Nintendo asked them to make their games “4K-ready.” Nintendo declined to comment to Bloomberg.

Even with the upcoming release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Katsuhiko Hayashi of Famitsu Group (an industry tracker) did not think the Nintendo Switch sales would slowdown any time soon. “Our data suggest the Switch hasn’t fulfilled demand yet. Switch sales are likely to gain further momentum at the year-end.”

Nintendo have been hemorrhaging leaks ever since the start of this year, with Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and Paper Mario: The Origami King all leaking ahead of their official announcements [1, 2, 3].
