Hi-Rez Studios have announced that Shinto moon god Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto is coming to their mythological MOBA Smite during today’s Summer Game Fest presentation.
While details on how Tsukuyomi will play were not revealed at this time, the history of Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto is not even entirely sure if the deity depicted as a man or woman.
The second of “three noble children” Tsukuyomi came into being when Izanagi-no-Mikoto (the god who created the first land) cleansed his body of sins after escaping the underworld. Tsukuyomi either came from Izanagi’s right eye, or a mirror made of white copper in Izanagi’s right hand. The sun goddess Amaterasu came from his left eye.
When the goddess of food Uke Mochi produced a feast to Tsukuyomi, she created it by spitting fish into the ocean, game into a forest, and rice from a rice paddy. This disgusted Tsukuyomi so much (despite the food looking delicious) he killed her. Amaterasu was enraged, and refused to look upon Tsukuyomi ever again- hence the sun and moon rarely meeting.
