Microsoft have announced they will be discontinuing the Xbox One and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, while the Xbox One S will continue.
Press Start reported that the Xbox One was discontinued in Australia, with both EB Games and JB Hi-Fi confirming they would not be restocking the console, and deleting it from their store systems.
Xbox One X listings were also reportedly deleted from both of the above store’s websites, along with Amazon Australia. The official Xbox Australian website also only shows the Xbox One S and Xbox Series X.
The UK’s Metro also cited reports that all Xbox One consoles were being discontinued on Amazon and Target, though this would later be revealed as an error.
A Microsoft representative issued a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, confirming that the Xbox One S would continue production, while the Xbox One S and Xbox One S All-Digital would be discontinued.
“As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally. Gamers can check with their local retailers for more details on Xbox One hardware availability.”
A similar statement was also issued to the Verge.
The Xbox One launched on November 22nd in 2013. It got off the wrong foot at its announcement press conference; focused on being a home entertainment system rather than a games console.
It would later be dealt a devastating blow, with always-online checks preventing players from playing used games, and a Kinect constantly watching. Both features were removed after much mockery from consumers and rival corporations.
In spite of this, the system would later begin the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Games coming to the console (along with PC) included Forza Horizon 4, Forza Motorsport 7, Gears 5, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo: Master Chief Collection, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, andSea of Thieves.
