Marvel’s Avengers Heads to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X Holiday 2020, Upgrade from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One “At No Additional Cost”

Marvel's Avengers

Square Enix have announced that Marvel’s Avengers will be available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and players can upgrade for free.

As stated in the press release (via email, and on Square Enix’ website) not only will the game be heading to next generation consoles, but players who buy the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will be able to “upgrade” to the next-generation platform equivalent “at no additional cost.” This will include being able to transfer save-files.

While Xbox Series X have detailed their Smart Delivery system to allow Xbox One games to be visually upgraded for participating games, this could be the first time we’re seeing such an offer from PlayStation.

In addition, players will be able to use cross-gen play across the systems. PlayStation 5 and 4 players will be able to play together online, while Xbox Series X and One players will be able to do the same. Cross platform play was not confirmed at this time.

The press release also focuses on the PlayStation 5, with an additional PlayStation Blog posting. On PlayStation 5 the game boasts that the “experience will be seamless and dynamic, fully utilizing the ultra-high speed SSD, the PS5 DualSense advanced haptics, and immersive spatial audio.”

The PlayStation 5 will also support the options of either Enhanced Graphics or Higher Framerate modes. The PLayStation Blog also states the game will support “stochastic screen-space reflections with contact-aware sharpening,” load times of one or two seconds before optimization, and 3D audio.

Details about the specific features to PC, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia will come later. In earlier news, a “War Table” livestream will occur on the 24th, showing off new gameplay.

Marvel’s Avengers is launches September 4th for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia; and Holiday 2020 for PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
