Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time Leaked by Taiwanese Ratings Board

Crash Bandicoot: It's About Time

Taiwan’s game ratings board has leaked Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, a seemingly brand new game from the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy developers.

Earlier this week IGN had been sent a jigsaw puzzle, which formed a mask-like character. This had time and clock motifs on it, but it had not been a mask we had seen before.

Now, the Taiwan’s Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs (also acting as their game ratings board) has leaked Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time [1, 2]. The game will be published by Activision, and developed by Toys for Bob (Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and supporting development on Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy).

The game appears to be an original story and game, as oppose to a remake. The original fourth Crash Bandicoot game was Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex in 2002. However, the game was met with average review scores from critics and fans [1, 2, 3].

That game also featured four masks (based around elements). Two of these masks were voiced by Mark Hamill (Py-Ro) and the late R. Lee Ermey (Wa-Wa). Due to their status and death respectively, it may have been difficult for Toys for Bob to ask them to reprise their roles if needed.

Combining these factors it seems Toys for Bob is attempting to make a better The Wrath of Cortex. Rather than remake it, they have made it clear it was a brand new game (which would grant them more creative freedom).

This is not the first time we’ve seen brand new Crash Bandicoot content. In 2018 Vicarious Visions created an original bonus level for the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Future Tense.

We will keep you informed as we learn more.

You can find the full rundown (via the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs) below.

“Crash is relaxing and exploring his island in his time, 1998, when he finds a mysterious mask hidden away in a cave, Lani-Loli. The mask is one of the Quantum Masks and apparently knows Aku-Aku, Crash’s mask friend! With the Quantum Masks returning and a Quantum Rift appearing near our heroes, they decide to bravely head through to different times and dimensions to stop whoever is responsible.”

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is coming soon to PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

In earlier news, Mel Winkler, best known as the voice of Aku Aku in the Crash Bandicoot games, has passed away at 78.
