Crucible Developers Remove Two Game Modes, Focusing on Heart of the Hives and Improvements

Crucible

Developer Relentless Studios have removed two of the game modes in Crucible, and are focusing on the remaining one and improvements to the game.

The developer update explains how “while there’s been a great response to the premise of our game from many players, we’ve also heard the feedback that there are features that we need to add as a top priority, like voice chat.”

As such, the game is going to remain in Pre-Season until those features and other “polish” is implemented into the game. The developer’s next steps, including the retirement of two of the games modes to focus on developing the Heart of the Hives mode.

“The community has rallied around Heart of the Hives in an amazing way. Moving forward, we’ll be putting all of our efforts towards Heart of the Hives and what we can do to make that mode shine. Focusing on one mode allows us to refine the design of core systems without the compromises we needed to make to support three game modes. This does mean that we’ll be retiring Harvester Command and Alpha Hunters for the foreseeable future. We’ll be removing Alpha Hunters from the list of game modes soon, and Harvester Command once our new player experience has been improved.”

The plan for the game has two phases. Building and iterating on core systems to support this Heart of the Hives-centered vision for the game.”

This includes voice chat, the ability to surrender a match, systems to deal with AFK players, an expanded ping system, “potentially some form of” mini-map, improved framerate, hit feedback, matchmaking and teaching new players how to play.

The second phase will will add additional systems and polish that will help elevate the Crucible experience.” This involves “custom tailoring” the map for Heart of Hives, “improving” the creatures you fight, support for custom games, and enhance social system functionality.
