Mafia III Definitive Edition Patch Removes PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X Enhanced Graphics

An update has removed the 4K graphical capabilities of the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X versions of Mafia III: Definitive Edition, that were promised in this new edition.

Eurogamer reports, the Definitive Edition of Mafia III from 2K Games at present cannot make use of the advanced capabilities of the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X, after a recent patch.

A few days ago a new 10GB update was pushed for Mafia III that seems to have accidentally undone the high resolution upscaling the Definitive Edition received, leaving players confused why the game suddenly looks considerably worse.

In an official interview between Xbox Wire and Hangar 13’s Andy Wilson, the Executive Producer of Mafia III, the Definitive Edition for Xbox One X was promised to have a full graphical overhaul and enable 4K graphics on the system.

What specifically is your development team doing to enhance Mafia III for Xbox One X?

We have focused on a number of significant graphical improvements for the Xbox One X version of Mafia III, led by the implementation of HDR and an upgrade to full 4K resolution. On top of this, we have improved the performance of and in some cases implemented more sophisticated solutions for depth of field, ambient occlusion, shadows, volumetric effects and motion blur. Finally, we’ve increased geometry detail to take better advantage of the higher resolution. In summary, we’ve pushed the boat out!”

However, users are reporting that the graphics are surprisingly low resolution on both the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro. According to Eurogamer, the Definitive Edition of Mafia III presently runs at only 900p on the Xbox One X- as opposed to the usual 4K 1728p graphics.

Mafia III: Definitive Edition is available now on Windows PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
