Koei Tecmo’s recent financial report has revealed the localization of Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is being planned.
The news comes via Koei Tecmo’s fiscal year report for 2019 (ending March 2020). The document is entirely in Japanese, with all text embedded as an image (making translation more difficult). However, Twitter user BlackKite (who posts Japanese gaming news and collaborates with RPG Site) has provided translation.
Accordng to them, Koei Tecmo state their upcoming plans include Fairy Tail on June 25th, Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 7 on June 18th in Japan, and Nioh 2‘s DLC localization is still being planned.
Along with the Nioh 2 DLC, the localization of Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is also in the works. The game released in Japan on February 20th.
The localization comes under question as to if there will be any changes. For those who missed our prior coverage, Atlus US stated they would be altering scenes for the western version of Persona 5 Royal.
Two stereotypical gay NPCs pursued both Ryuji and the protagonist for comic relief. The scene was change so as not to portray the characters in a “negative light“.
Even though Atlus USA cited feedback from fans of the original game, it seems users of gaming forum ResetEra may have- at least in part- contributed to the complaints toward the scene. Some were motivated by a deep loathing of the Game Director Katsura Hashino, others were unimpressed with the game’s LGBT representation.
How these scenes would be altered was later revealed, making the two characters mistakenly believe Ryuji is into cross-dressing, and forcibly attempting to make him wear women’s clothes and make-up.
BlackKite also notes that for Koei Tecmo, foreign sales (relative to Japan) make up 37% of all sales, and 71.9% of physical sales.
