Chex Quest HD Launches Summer 2020 on Windows PC, Free to Play

Chex Quest HD

General Mills have quietly announced the release date of Chex Quest HD, along with announcing the game will be free to play.

The original Chex Quest was released in 1996, as part of a cereal box prize for Chex cereal. The game was a heavily modified version of Doom, with a focus on being non-violent. For example, the enemy alien “Flemoids” are not killed, but teleported back to their home planet via “zorchers”- the game’s weapon.

Chex Quest HD has been teased since 2017, with the latest trailer from February 2019. According to SteamDB, (a third party website cataloging changes to Steam’s database) the game’s store page received major updates on April 14th. The game’s Facebook page was also recently updated with new promotional images.

While there was no press release or announcement, it was noticed on social media, and reported on by other websites. The Steam page now indicates the game will be free to play, along with having unlockable characters, and split-screen multiplayer.

You can find the full rundown (via Steam) below.

Chex Quest HD is a modern, multiplayer remake of the classic 1996 FPS advergame of the same name.

These slimy “Flemoids” have taken the citizens of Bazoik captive and it is up to you and the Chex Mix Squadron to free them. Thankfully you have a handy array of “zorching” devices which can send these invaders back to their home dimension so you can succeed in your mission.

Features:
– Play as one of 6 unlockable members of Chex Mix Squadron!
– In single-player or split-screen multiplayer mode*!
– Save the galaxy from the nefarious Flemoid menace!
