CD Projekt have announced they will stick to Cyberpunk 2077‘s September release, despite the “troubled times” brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.
The “Management Board Report on the Activities of the CD Projekt Group and CD Projekt S.A. in 2019” has been released via the CD Projekt website.
In the conclusion to the opening comments on pages 3 and 4 by CD Projekt President Adam Kiciński, he insists that Cyberpunk 2077 will still meet its planned September release date.
“Since mid-March we have been working from home, while ensuring continuity of all our of operations. Our goals haven’t changed; first and foremost, we intend to release Cyberpunk 2077 in September. We feel motivated and have the necessary tools at our disposal to meet this goal. We also believe that our longstanding strategy of avoiding debt and accumulating cash reserves makes us well prepared to meet any hardships which may be in store during these troubled times.”
The “troubled times” no doubt refer to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic (also known as COVID-19 officially, or Chinese Flu to others). It has affected many worldwide, from businesses to public gatherings and events. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]. This includes the postponement of GDC, and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, along with the cancellation of E3 2020 (including digital events), and Comiket 98.
The pandemic has caused numerous delays on video game titles as well, including the physical PlayStation 4 version of Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack, The Last of Us Part II, The Wastelanders update for Fallout 76, and The Other Worlds on Nintendo Switch.
Some have tried their best to work around the virus. Square Enix initially announced that may not get Final Fantasy VII Remake on release day, they later stated some would get the game “much earlier“ in Europe and Australia. TaleWorlds Entertainment launched Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord into Early Access one day earlier than planned.

The Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering are mapping the virus’ spread [1, 2]. As of this time of writing, there have been over 1.496 million total confirmed cases worldwide, and over 1.069 million active cases. There have been over 89,000 deaths, however over 336,000 people have made a “total recovery.”
Cyberpunk 2077 was originally slated for an April release, later being delayed to September 17th. While Kiciński does not refer to the 17th explicitly (only the month of September), any suggestion that this confirms the game may be delayed to within September would be pure speculation on our part.
