E3 2020 Participants Leak

E3 2020

A user on ResetEra has discovered websites related to E3 2020 are now live, and has obtained a list of the participating organizations.

The user (Rösti) created a thread, revealing URLs related to E3 2020 seemingly owned by The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) [1, 2, 3, 4], along with screencaptures of some of the webpages. You can find them below:

While the websites are now protected by a password, some facts were discovered.

Registration for E3 2020 was planned to go live on February 15th, at 11 a.m. EST via this link. Whether that will change now the information has leaked early is unknown. Non-press badges range from $165 (for two days access), to $995 (three days access, a VIP lounge, hotel reservations, lunch and dinner, and more).

In addition, the participation list was revealed. These included:

  • Activision
  • Amazon Game Studios
  • Bandai Namco Entertainment America
  • Bethesda
  • Capcom USA
  • Epic Games
  • Kalypso Media Geoup
  • NCSoft
  • RDS Industries
  • Sega
  • Square Enix
  • Take-Two
  • Tencent
  • THQ Nordic
  • Ubisoft Entertainment
  • Ubisoft Entertainment SA
  • UnnamedVR by Paracosma
  • Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
  • XSEED Games

With companies such as Nintendo Microsoft absent, the list is seemingly incomplete. Not only as other companies may not have registered yet, but the list being abridged to draw others in- as it is website designed to encourage companies and gamers to join the event.

Rösti seemingly got in via the official E3 website (set to update on February 13th), wherein “some image files there (the logo to be precise) link to the WebOps platform Pantheon.io where the E3 site with all information is hosted.” That part of the website had no password protection.

This is sure to be of embarrassment to the ESA, as their recent “sneak peak” of E3 2020 discussed how they would utilize “enhanced and layered security measures developed by an outside cybersecurity firm,” along with “updating their data management processes” for the registration process.

This was most likely in response to the personal details of many attending journalists being leaked in 2019. Being the ESA responded within the day this exploit was discovered, it may be of some comfort to those attending.

We will keep you informed as we learn more.

E3 2020 runs from June 9th to June 11th at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
