Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition Switch Port to Include Style Switching

Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition

Capcom have announced Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition on Nintendo Switch will have style switching.

For those unfamiliar, the original Devil May Cry 3 introduced styles to the series (using different weapons and fighting-styles in attacks). Player could choose the style they wished to use at the start of a mission, or from Divinity Statues during missions (essentially the game’s shop).

In Devil May Cry 4, style switching was first introduced, and was carried over to Devil May Cry 5. Now, Capcom have revealed “Free Style” for Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition, a special style that allows the player to switch between all others at will.

The Capcom Unity blog explained how the Free Style would work:

“Style Switching in DMC3 Special Edition (Nintendo Switch) will work just like you’d expect. Press UP for Trickster, DOWN for Royal Guard, LEFT for Gunslinger and RIGHT for Swordmaster. For the special styles unlocked later in the game, it’ll require a quick double-tap of specific buttons. For Doppelganger, double-tap LEFT, and for Quicksilver, double-tap RIGHT.”

The blog also reveals this is only “new feature #1,” and that fans should “keep January 30th and February 13th marked on your calendars for the next extra feature reveals.”

It should be noted this reveal was also teased, with the date coinciding with a presentation of the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character reveal. Suffice to say, many were surprised when Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses was confirmed instead.

This speculation was only further ramped up thanks to comments made by Brian Hanford (the voice actor for V in Devil May Cry 5) during a podcast, stated he wished V would be in cross-over games like Marvel Vs. Capcom or Smash Bros., but it was incredibly unlikely.

“This is what kills me about it, I’m a new character. So I’m not in the DMC lore enough to ever be considered for Super Smash, and that would be the ultimate life goal. To be part of Marvel Vs. Capcom, or Super Smash Bros.- or both, which is what Dante is going to be.”

We were skeptical if Hanford had indeed leaked Dante coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as there were possibilities that he misspoke, or felt Dante being part of that game was inevitable.

In either case, six additional fighters and Fighters Pass Vol. 2 were confirmed to be coming to the game. With the fighters already decided, the reveals are sure to get crazy one way or another.

Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition launches February 20th on Nintendo Switch.
