Bethesda is Making the BethesdaNet Logins Optional for Doom Re-Releases

Yesterday, Bethesda had a surprise announcement for this year’s QuakeCon – they re-released all three original Doom games onto modern gaming consoles.

While Doom, Doom II, and Doom 3 were released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch – users weren’t able to just buy the games and jump right in, as they required a BethesdaNet account to even access the content. To confound things further, the Bethesda severs were so overwhelmed, even if you wanted to make an account and sign in, you couldn’t.

Now, Bethesda has promised they’re removing the mandatory BethesdaNet account for the various Doom games, explaining the “login should be optional, and we are working on changing the requirement to optional now. We will update everyone when a fix is ready.”

Both Doom and Doom II required you to log in just once, but Doom 3 required you to log in every time. The Slayers Club is the official fanclub for the Doom franchise, where you can earn points and unlock skins for Doomguy and demons in the games, as well as merchandise coupons.
