Baldur’s Gate 3 is Happening, According to its Original Publisher

A hot tease of sorts is pointing to someone actually developing Baldur’s Gate 3.

The rumor began with another tease by inXile Entertainment boss Brian Fargo, who said “I happen to know who is working on Baldur’s Gate 3.”

This was in response to a fan pointing to an old RockPaperShotgun interview with Beamdog, the folks who handled the Baldur’s Gate remasters, as well as the new “Siege of Dragonspear” mid-sequel release. In that interview Beamdog said their eventual goal is to make Baldur’s Gate 3.

It’s worth pointing out that Fargo originally founded Interplay, the original publisher for Baldur’s Gate, so it makes sense he would be privy to what is going on with that license.

Other rumors have been stemming from the original tease from Fargo, however none of them really line up. One points to Larian Studios, the Belgium studio that a source notes are currently working on a new Divinity project. It’s unlikely they’re working on another massive CRPG simultaneously.

Recently, Fargo mentioned that should their latest big RPG, The Bard’s Tale IV, sell well enough – he’ll try to buy back Interplay, his old publisher. It remains to be seen what kind of legal limbo the Baldur’s Gate license is currently in, but it would be very interesting to see an inXile-made sequel.
