Valve responded to the recent controversy surrounding the removal of certain games with adult content on their platform today. The long and short of it is:

If you’re a player, we shouldn’t be choosing for you what content you can or can’t buy. If you’re a developer, we shouldn’t be choosing what content you’re allowed to create. Those choices should be yours to make.

With that principle in mind, we’ve decided that the right approach is to allow everything onto the Steam Store, except for things that we decide are illegal, or straight up trolling.

Steam and Valve will no longer be removing games and content that some find offensive or problematic, unless said content is illegal or if Steam deems it to be “trolling” (no definition was provided on what would be considered “trolling”)

The controversy started when certain games, mostly Visual Novel type games and ecchi type games were given a warning that their content was deemed inappropriate and would be removed from the distribution service unless the developers further censored their games.
