EVO 2018 Lineup Confirmed

The lineup for this year’s EVO tournament has been confirmed.

The new roster of games includes expected titles like Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, as well as newly released fighters like Dragon Ball FighterZ and even BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle – the latter of which is launching close to the tournament.

Here’s the full lineup:

  • BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ (Sunday finals)
  • Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 (Sunday finals)
  • Injustice 2
  • Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (Sunday finals)
  • Super Smash Bros. 4
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee (Sunday finals)
  • Tekken 7 (Sunday finals)

Titles that were selected for the Sunday finals will all be presented on the big stage, Titles like BlazBlue: Central Fiction, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and The King of Fighters XIV were selected last year but won’t be returning. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite wasn’t selected either.

While previous tournaments have had nine games selected, a ninth and final game for this year’s EVO wasn’t confirmed at this time.

EVO also confirmed they’re teaming up with Humble Bundle to help with the Puerto Rico relief effort – further details are coming at the end of this month.

Registration is expected to go up next week. This year’s EVO is set to go down from August 5th to the 8th.

I only own Tekken 7 from that list. I guess I’m quickly moving away from fighting games because of their crappy business models.

It’s Arc Sys world; everyone else is just living in it.

To Smash 4’s credit, they made DLC months after release.

MvCI and KoF14 will still show up in side tournaments, which is supposed to get a larger space and more stream converge this year. As mainstream and corporate Evo’s become (banning character costumes because ESPN doesn’t like them), side tournaments is where to go if you like the Evo of old. But I’m excited to see what high level DBFZ is capable of.

Yeah, fair enough. The reason I don’t have Smash is that I don’t own the platforms, so it is an obvious exception from this list. Plus it is hardly a traditional fighting game.

Interesting. MarkMan heavily implied on his Twitter account that Disney was the one who didn’t want Marvel on the Evo stage this year. In any case, I’m gonna enjoy Evo like I always do. When’s DBZ?

The only thing Marvel can beat DC at is the movies.

Just happy people aren’t putting up with Capcom’s crap. Hopefully the next time they release a fighting game, that they actually finish it and put some effort into it.

But apparently people are putting up with Netherrealm and ArcSys’ crap, so I don’t see this as any kind of consumer victory. The only reason that MvC:I is not on there is because of the terrible sales numbers.

3 ArcSys fighters is beautiful, now we just need to replace that shitshow Injustice 2 with KoF XIV and it’d be perfect.

It’s ridiculous that BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, a game that has half of it’s roster locked behind DLC, got in and King of Fighters XIV isn’t. The game just came out, you can’t even say the user base is larger.
