Sumo Digital Acquires Eve: Valkyrie Studio CCP Games Newcastle

Sumo Digital has announced they’ve acquired CCP Games’ Newcastle studio, the folks known for the VR-enabled action space-sim Eve: Valkyrie.

The 34 staff under the Newcastle studio will stay in Newcastle, UK, and report to studio director Owen O’Brien. They’re now the fourth studio under Sumo Digital, and a price for the deal wasn’t announced.

“As we continue to expand this was a great opportunity to bring an experienced, talented and tight-knit team on board,” said Paul Porter, Manging Director of Sumo Digital.

It makes sense that CCP Games sold off their Newcastle studio, as the publisher ended their VR development and laid off nearly 100 staff back in October of last year.

Sumo Digital has a few games in development, including Crackdown 3 and Dead Island 2.
