Vampyr Delayed to Spring 2018

Dontnod Entertainment and publisher Focus Home Interactive have announced a delay for Vampyr.

The action RPG will forgo its planned November release window to one sometime next spring across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The reasoning behind the delay is an unforeseen issue (now solved) pushing back their development, which they were wrapping up.

Here’s the entire message from Dontnod Entertainment:

Delaying the release of a project you hold dear is always a tough decision. However, we believe that meeting a deadline should never compromise quality. We were still convinced just a few weeks ago that we would be able to release Vampyr this year. Unfortunately, a technical issue – now solved – has set our teams’ schedule back at the end of the development.

This delay allows us enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr‘s scope, with its ambitious, semi-open world, its complex narrative and deep RPG mechanics that give players a real impact on the world.

We want to thank our publisher Focus Home Interactive for giving us the means and time necessary to provide players a memorable experience… especially since so many of you are eagerly waiting for it.

A delay is usually a good thing.I hope they deliver a vampire RPG that’s at least decent.

Yeah, I agree. Also, a bit of trivia for you, vampyr(vampir to be exact) is the actual word we use in Transylvania/Romania for those blood sucking majestic creatures…

“The reasoning behind the delay is an unforeseen issue”

They remembered they can’t make games with decent gameplay.

Goddammit. I was really looking forward to playing this this year. Modern game development seems like such a fucking crapshoot with regards to hitting release dates.

It’s because it’s software engineering, no one knows how to do it correctly because it’s a relatively new field, so everyone uses the waterfall model, which works great when you build houses or cars, but not so much with software.
