Shovel Knight Makes Cameo in Yooka-Laylee, New Trailer Introduces Characters

Playtonic Games have shared a new trailer for Yooka-Laylee, their upcoming Banjo-Kazooie inspired platforming game.

Featured above, the new trailer introduces the colorful and dynamic cast of characters players will encounter in the game.

However, an interesting cameo has been confirmed for the game – the stoic fan-favorite, Shovel Knight.

Yooka-Laylee will be releasing across PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, PC, Mac and Linux sometime in Q1 of next year.

The more I see of this game the more I look forward to it. And it’s super-fitting to have a Shovel Knight cameo considering it’s the only other Kickstarted game project that didn’t screw over its backers, and actually delivered a quality game.

hard to judge the game, because it seems targeted at a very young age demographic

It’s targeted at a much older demographic than you think. This is a nostalgia grab but it’s being made by some competent devs.

Should I get this for Wii U or for PS4?

Shovel Knight seems to be in every indie game these days. Curious how this game will turn out. These big name Kickstarter projects don’t have a good track record.

Given that it’s an open world game running in Unity, neither console seems likely to run the game particularly well.

If it doesn’t have any gamepad specific features then PS4 seems more reasonable.

It’s primary audience is people who remember and enjoyed the Banjo games – most of those players are (or should be) young adults at least.

Though of course, the game has been designed in a way anyone can enjoy.

Playtonic themselves are handling the Wii U version, while Team 17 is working on the PS4 and Xbone version. Personally, I’m getting it on Wii U.

    Wii U it is then.

Considering just about everything in the game is analogous to

something in the real world, I’d certainly say so.

Although Shovel Knight also just fits right in with the rest of the cast anyway with their sort of humor.

The protagonist of the best 2D indy platformer meets the protagonists of the best indy 3D platformer. Freakin’ sweet!

Is their any indie game shovel knight isn’t shoved into?

there are plenty of kickstarters that delivered quality games

Probably better to wait for Digital Foundry to do their thing. All consoles seem to struggle with Unity, but the Wii U most of all.

Divinity: Original Sin, FTL, Wasteland 2, Sunless Sea, Shadowrun, etc. would all like a word.

Really glad with how well this game looks to be shaping up. I’ve dearly missed this genre.

I like Shovel Knight, don’t get me wrong, but it’s becoming tiring seeing him in every indie game now.

I think “only other Kickstarted game project” that received the level of coverage and hype (and expectations), is a better way of putting it.

What other indie games has he actually been a part of?

    Runbow, Gunvolt 2, Bloodstained, Indivisible…

I only knew about Indivisible and Gunvolt.
Still, I don’t mind him. That ending to his game forever cemented him in my heart.
