New English Gameplay for Square Enix Throwback JRPG, I Am Setsuna

Square Enix has shared a new gameplay trailer for I Am Setsuna.

Featured above, you can view the roughly two-minute long gameplay trailer for the debut, throwback RPG from Square Enix’s Tokyo RPG Factory. The new trailer showcases the game’s artwork, story segments, music, as well as its Chrono Trigger-inspired battle system.

I Am Setsuna is a game that tells a sad, reportedly depressing story of a young woman named Setsuna. Described as a woman of “incredible inner strength,” Setsuna must ultimately make a sacrifice to save the people of her homeland.

I Am Setsuna is launching for both PlayStation 4 (digital-only) and PC via Steam on July 19th, for $39.99.

Can we get a limited physical release Atlus style? I’m pretty sure that would go well in the west.

Damn. I might actually get this game for Christmas assuming it’s not more than like 9GB or something (I have 50000 something MB). Either this or Pokemon S&M.

40$ for a digital only game is way too much.

Considering it’s Squeenix, yer going to get a 50GB, Dual-layer Blu-ray disc packed with a 400kb online installer whose only purpose is to force you to always stick it into the disc drive every.single.time you want to play the game.

You know Square Enix has yet to price drop/budle all dlc for Drakengard 3 on PS3 PS store in Europe where it released digital only (DLC from PAL incompatible with other regions). So I dread the price staying like this.

Those visuals though.. Ugh, it’s like watching an HD version of a DS Crystal Chronicles game.

There aren’t, it’s just that the people who DO hate digital only releases happen to be massively vocal.

On one hand, ugh. Digital only. On the other, if SE plays this right, a return seeing a return to 16-bit/32-bit era JRPGs makes me a happy person.

I remember the news concerning the Vita version about longer loading times, which was blown out of proportion.
Like it could have been better (like 3-5 seconds less) but it’s not as bad in actual use.

I’m really excited for this! Its got a very cold and somber atmosphere to it. The combination of a nearly all piano soundtrack and a snow filled world makes it look really comfy. Definitely getting this day one.

its not hated, bruh. the word would be ‘prefered’.

people, including me prefered physical copy. it’s like seeing your hard-earned cash turn into something you can see and give you satisfaction. guess its not the case for steam huh. but hey, i also got games on steam.

They’ve been making RPGs for 30-ish years and don’t understand their customers at all. RPG lovers, especially JRPG lovers, are the ones who truly want physical copy. Frat boys who just play the new Call of Halofield don’t give a shit about having a physical copy.

Digital only on PC is tolerable because A) you can either back them up (DRM free) or obtain them other ways if the service ever goes down / you lose your account and B) you can buy games at a fraction of the price of a console game. I’m OK with having a game be digital only if I’m paying 50% less, but if I’m paying full price either way, you bet your ass I want a goddamn physical copy.

I really don’t get how the choice is “this or Pokemon S&M”. Pokemon games have dull combat and pretty much non-existent stories / character development. I get little kids liking Pokemon, because better games are beyond their grasp….but adults worshipping Pokemon is just mind boggling to me.

I don’t know. Catching whatever pokemon you want and going on a journey is pretty fun to me. Plus in RPGs (or at least maybe most of them), you only have the same different characters.

By the way, I happen to be 13. Maybe that’s another reason.
