We’ve learned (from Famitsu, via Hachima) that Japanese developer CyberConnect2 is working on an exciting new game, for a worldwide release across PlayStation 4, PC (via Steam) and Xbox One.
The news comes from an interview with CyberConnect2 CEO and company president Hiroshi Matsuyama, who confirmed the games existence as part of their multiple upcoming projects across all three platforms. It’s poised as an entirely new, original IP for the developer.
Matsuyama confirms it will be released worldwide, and they’re currently referring to it as “Project Venom” internally. Their goal with the game is to hearken back to those older RPGs that really impacted you. It won’t be massive or open world in scale, instead they’re focusing on a rewarding experience.
Details are scant, but the clear Studio Ghibli inspiration in the first artwork (featured above) was noted, with Matsuyama describing the game as having shooting and action. He said it’s reminiscent of the classic Ghibli flick Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and it will release sometime next year.
Matsuyama said this is but one of many projects that will be released across all three platforms, and said download sales are probably the key to their success (while also not ruling out retail copies as an option).
