We’ve learned (via the Wall Street Journal) that Nintendo is reportedly sending out developer kits for their codenamed NX console.
From their source:
The exact shape of the NX hardware isn’t yet clear. People familiar with the development plans said Nintendo would likely include both a console and at least one mobile unit that could either be used in conjunction with the console or taken on the road for separate use. They also said Nintendo would aim to put industry-leading chips in the NX devices, after criticism that the Wii U’s capabilities didn’t match those of competitors.
The Journal also mentions that Nintendo is distributing a “software development kit” for the NX platform, meaning the publisher is looking to garner developer support for the console.
The biggest thing to take away from this report is that the NX console is being projected as a console/handheld hybrid, although it remains to be seen just how this will pan out in terms of functionality, and consumer adoption rate.
