Sony has Dropped the Price of the Playstation 4 in Japan

playstation 4 09-15-15-1

Sony has announced a price cut for the PlayStation 4 during their SCEJA press conference.

The fourth iteration of their home gaming console will see a price reduction from its current 39,980 yen price to 34,980 yen, beginning on October 1st.

It’s worth mentioning this price cut is only for Japan, and thus a price change for the west is currently unconfirmed.

That’s nice of Sony, shame the Wii U can’t do that due to the Gamepad… and the Xbox is already as cheap as it can be since it removed the fluff.

Don’t components become cheaper over time? Is the stuff in the Gamepad uncommon? Dropping it and increasing revenue via software sales would be a good strategy if the components got cheaper. Then again it’s still a fairly new console and cheaper than the competition even with this price cut.

Surprised there able to do so with the current climate in the marketplace, but maybe it’s cause of that, that there even doing it.

They do become cheaper, but I’d imagine the Gamepad has components and tech that hasn’t really lowered in price. Plus it doesn’t help that:
    A. They don’t want to sell at a loss.
    B. The low sales might be them going, “even if we cut the price no one will still be interested. Whoever want sto buy it will buy it at the current reasonable price.”

And this price drop makes me suspect that the PS4 redesign isn’t very far off.
