Nexon Releases Card Game, Mabinogi Duel, onto Android

Nexon, the free-to-play giant, teamed up with DevCat again to release a trading card game onto Google Play and Android. The game takes place in the Vindictus and Mabinogi mythos, and even features crossovers from each, with characters showing up as playable cards.

While it’s currently being called a “Closed” beta, the game is actually accessible to anyone, and can be downloaded from the Google Play store.

The game includes a story mode, daily and weekly quests, an arena that features tournaments, and a “SoulLink” mode. The SoulLink mode allows you to play against and trade with your friends if they are nearby. While the daily and weekly quests appear to not be working, the story, arena and SoulLink modes all function well.

Mabinogi Duel does, unfortunately, carry with it the typical free-to-play barriers such as energy being required to play matches, or card packs requiring in-game gold and gems, but it feels significantly less restrictive.

With the game being free to try, it’s worth a download. The card game is far more involved than most available for smart phones, and is actually strategy heavy. The art work is also beautifully done, and the UI is functional and smooth.
