[Editor’s note: the article has been updated with the above trailer that Square Enix released for Spelunker Z.]
Previously, Square Enix teased a game codenamed “Project Code Z” for Playstation 4. Now, we’ve learned (via Famitsu) the game’s true form, via this year’s Tokaigi expo.
The game is actually Spelunker Z, a free-to-play title that is currently in development by Tozai Games. It’ll launch in Japan on March 19th, and it features up to six player online multiplayer, as well as character customization, and more.
The most notable addition to the classic formula is probably the pets, all of which have their own unique abilities. There’s also these “Lithographic Seeds” which enables players to obtain items to upgrade their Spelunker.
A reminder – this is a free to play title, so there will be microtransactions as well. Spelunker series creator Tim Martin was also on stage, who demoed the game with Square Enix producer Yasuaki Arai and the wildly popular Japanese streamers, M.S.S. Project.
