It seems like this holiday is a very prosperous one for Nintendo and the Wii U.
Following a somewhat stagnant early 2014 and the usual summer lull in both game releases and hardware sales, we’ve learned the Wii U has broken 8 million units worldwide in hardware sales.
This brings it much closer to Microsoft’s Xbox One, which seems to be plateauing at 10 million units worldwide. [Editor’s note: keep in mind that it took the Wii U two years to reach its number, whereas the Xbox One has reached its in one.] In comparison, the Playstation 4 is sitting at roughly 17 million units sold worldwide. The Wii U broke the 8 million sales milestone during the week ending on December 13th, where it sold 220,529 units for the week.
Many are attributing the boost in Wii U hardware sales to the game’s stellar lineup of holiday games, like Super Smash Bros. and Bayonetta 2. It’s worth noting that Super Smash Bros. has sold almost two million units worldwide.
Do you guys own a Wii U? If so, are you enjoying its roster of games?
