Sony has confirmed that Playstation Home, its long running virtual chat room/hub of sorts, is shutting down in both North America and Europe.

The shut down will take place on March 31st of next year, and this is following the shut down of the Japanese equivalent of Playstation Home. The virtual meet-up has enabled tens of millions of Playstation 3 users to hang out since 2008, which is when the service first kicked off.

While new content is going to come to a halt after November 12th, users will be able to download content until December 3rd in Europe and on November 26th in North America. Free content is coming between now and the shut down, in an effort to placate the users who have probably spent way too much cash on the platform.

Here’s a quick FAQ:

Q: What happens to all of the PlayStation Home content that I have earned and bought?
A: PlayStation Home fans will still be able to download content until 26th November 2014. You will be able to use any content you have earned and bought in PlayStation Home right up until the 31st of March 2015.

Q: Am I entitled to a refund?
A: Due to the progressive and innovative nature of the gaming industry, PlayStation is unable to refund on legacy platform or service experiences.

Q: Is PlayStation Home or a similar service coming to PlayStation 4?
A: There are no plans for PlayStation Home to come to PlayStation 4. PlayStation 4 is a powerful next generation console with the connective capability to offer gamers an outstanding social gaming and community experience in brand new ways.

So have you guys ever used the service? If you have, are you sad to see it go?
