Square Enix is publishing a new album to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Yoko Shimomura in the game industry as a composer.
The new album, titled simply “memória!”, is set to launch on March 26th in Japan for 3,000 yen (around $29 USD). Memória will contain recordings of new most popular pieces, stuff from Kingdom Hearts, Legend of Mana, and Live A Live.
Yoko’s music is critically acclaimed and easily some of the most inspiring stuff I’ve ever heard in my decades of playing video games. The melody from Sparkling City Destroyed was stuck in my head for an entire summer when Legend of Mana first came out.
Yoko Shimomura is currently working on music for Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III.
