Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Heads to Nintendo Switch on May 4

Nintendo has announced a Nintendo Switch port for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

The Retro Studios-developed platforming game will launch for the hybrid console on May 4th.

Here’s a brief rundown on the Switch version, via Nintendo:

Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong and Cranky Kong return for the franchise’s debut on Nintendo Switch. This title includes all the fun and challenge of the original game, plus a new beginner-friendly mode that lets players enjoy this critically acclaimed adventure as groovy surfing simian Funky Kong. Funky Kong can double jump, hover, perform infinite rolls and even perform infinite underwater corkscrews. Thanks to his sturdy surfboard, even spikes can’t slow him down.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was originally released for the Wii U back in 2014.

The Wii-U just keeps becoming more and more obsolete.

  • orbo

    Aww yeah.
Everyone’s said it by now that this should be moved to the switch.
Even if you like your wiiu nobody bought the dang thing and gems like this were unfortunately dragged down with it.

  • Jared Bellow

    Oh hell yeah!

  • PenguinPlayer

It’s a good game, glad to see more people will have the chance to play it now. All Nintendo needs to make me get a switch now is announce they are porting The Wonderful 101 as well since that is my favorite game of the console.

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

Hopefully they add all the Wii U first party titles

  • Donwel

I imagine they probably will, not that many people owned the Wii U.

  • Travis Touchdown

It’s obsolete because I got to play the GOAT platformer four years ahead of time? LMAO.

  • Travis Touchdown

I suspect they will. The Wii U was the only console in the 2012-2017 period that was regularly getting amazing games.

  • NukeA6

How about someone who doesn’t own a Wii-U or a Switch? There’s honestly no reason to get the former console at this point unless you’re one of those game collectors. It’s not like a Wii-U is cheap anyway.

  • Uncle Ocelot

    Oh sweet.

  • Uncle Ocelot

It’s obsolete now because it’s best games are gradually all moving over to the Switch in fully portable form yes. You know the definition of obsolete, right? You playing DKC years ago is irrelevant in that fact.

  • Travis Touchdown

Switch is so similar to Wii U it may as well be considered a revision.

  • Travis Touchdown

The Switch version did not exist four years ago when they game first came out. I was very happy playing that version of the game four years ago, and am very happy that new players can hop on board with the port on Switch.

  • Uncle Ocelot

    Yeah same.

  • Amethyst Eclipse

So “amazing” that they didn’t move hardware!

  • Amethyst Eclipse

Sounds like the relationship between you, your wife and her BF, maybe after years of prepping the bull and watching em in the corner while jerking off with one hand the other stretched out to your cum encrusted keyboard going on about games you’ve likely never actually played (but I repeat myself) she might give you a handy.

  • Nanashi

I was kinda hoping they’d bundle in Returns as well, like they did with Bayo 1 with 2. I just really want a HD Returns.

Also, does it bother anyone else that Funky is so completely outclassing Donkey here? Or is it just me? >.>

  • DrearierSpider

Eh, good to see but CEMU has it beat by a long shot already.

  • TheOnceAndFutureKing

Ye, Mario 3D World and Smash Bros 4 were great, I wanna play them some more.

  • chocodino

It’s just the “super easy mode” that nintendo likes to add in some of their titles.

  • Bitterbear
  • NukeA6

The Wii-U isn’t getting new games though so it’s obsolete.

  • Shattno

    That is pure nightmare fuel.

  • Shattno

Such a great game, really glad more people get the chance to play it

  • Shattno

But isn’t that normal for a last gen console tho? ;)

  • OldPalpy

You think he gives a shit? I don’t see why anyone bothers trying to throw logic at this guy, he ignores it just toss cuck jokes at him instead.

  • Ninjagai

Just to be clear, Nintendo withheld these announcements so people would still waste their money on the WiiU. Because they’re the game company that cares about gamers.

  • Travis Touchdown

There was a weird stigma about Wii U that kept people from buying it for whatever reason.

There’s a VERY good reason why Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best selling game on Switch despite being available on Wii U for years.

  • Amethyst Eclipse

Nothing weird about being a trash console
