New Indie Game Tries Again to Create Socialist Utopia in New City-Sim

Despite a cumulative global death toll of over 100 million people and the current state of absolute devastation in Venezuela, people still keep saying socialism works and that it’s not real socialism in the current example(s).

An indie developer has taken common idealistic socialist principles and put them to a game cutely named Post/Capitalism. Say it once again with me: “but it’s not real socialism!”

While city builders typically have you constructing the ideal, functional, and profitable society from scratch – this game has a pre-built city block that you have to optimize to create a better society out of the world as it exists. The goal is to “reorganize the capitalist present into a postcapitalist utopia.”

You have to click an object in the environment multiple times to change it to something else, and “only partial change is possible within capitalism.” If you transform one object, another will revert to its “capitalist form,” and you can even mouse over two objects to see the relationship between the two.

Post/Capitalism is free to play over on developer Colestia’s itch.io website. You can mix and match to try figuring out how socialist policies can ever work in the larger scale of things.
