I guess that’s one way to do a naked character.

  • Snorlaxation

I hope laura bailey will reprise the role (whenever it gets translated)

Why isn’t this Cloud Strife cosplaying as Cloud of Darkness

  • Ace

She sounds like an old hag.

  • edge

Well she has white hair and is the embodiment of the world evil, it’s pretty safe to say she’s been around awhile which is probably why they intentionally got an older sounding voice for her.

  • Oh baby my old main is back!

  • すろぉもぉしょん

    Why does she have clothes?

  • ProxyDoug

Speaking of which, I wonder if we could get a Cloud in dress costume this time.

-_- Just…WHY? Square Enix have been good to their female audience over the years, why make these kind of characters? It only serves to drive off their core fanbase, and turns the franchise into yet another ecchi fanservice crap.

In fact, it’s got to the point where several gamers I know (all women) has told me that they’re going to boycott and avoid Square Enix games from now on because of this, and I fully support their decision. I am raising this issue to people and Square Enix on social media.

    Why does she even exist?

  • Lucy Taylor

That’s what Japanese developers do with female characters by default anyway.

  • Lucy Taylor

Why have you even posted that picture? Like, what are you trying to say? Because it only serves to validate her (Anita Sarkeesian & Feminist Frequency) points about video games sexually objectifying women.

Shes the final boss from onion bros adventure.

The character has existed since 1990 as the final boss of Final Fantasy III. Per character designer Yoshitaka Amano she has very little clothing – her in game sprite has *no* clothing (she is an ephemeral cloud, after all):

Your objections are not unfounded, but the issue is exceedingly more cultural than you are attributing to it. Japanese character designs for women generally are more exposing than in the west. Boycotting the game may not have the desired impact since this region is not necessarily the primary focus for SE – at least not for this game (note: this trailer is in Japanese).

Additionally: this game is jointly developed with Koei Tecmo. Check their catalog if you’d like to see how progressive how their female character designs are…

So in other words, the Japanese are sexist against women. Got it.
