Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal Announced for PlayStation 4

Marvelous has announced Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal.

The new game is a remake of the original Senran Kagura Burst, and it’s currently in development for PlayStation 4. A release date is set for February 22nd of next year in Japan.

As you can expect, the remake takes the side-scrolling original and makes it a full 3D action game like its sequels and spinoffs. All of the game’s visuals have been upgraded, and even the Shinobi Transformations. This also includes a remake for its predecessor, Senran Kagura: Skirting Shadows, so consider this a complete package to get into Senran Kagura.

You can get the first look at gameplay below:

(Editor’s Note: Around the 1:22 mark)

In related news, Marvelous announced a few other titles within the franchise, including: Shinobi Master Senran Kagura: New LinkSenran Kagura 7EVEN, and Peach Ball: Senran Kagura.

    Burst re:newal gameplay at 1:22:05.

  • Mr0303

Awesome. I never got to play the original Burst games, so this remake is most welcome. The release of his makes sense since the 7th game is also on PS4 and people could get to know more about the lore before playing it. Shinovi Versus explained things rather well, but it was only on Vita and Estival Versus concentrated on the two new schools.

Also Yumi having a side story in it is a nice bonus.

  • SnakesonyPs

The complety saga in Sony, fuck Yeah

  • Mr0303

The whole 7th anniversary stream was like E3 for boobs. Takaki demonstrated the strength of the Senran Kagura empire.

  • Rio Kamichika

The complety saga in Sony, this make my day

  • I’ve been DYING for this. Not only because I’ll own Burst for myself now, but also because after playing the other SK games, Burst is almost unbearable to play due to not aging well. Now I can experience the full game without issue!

  • Michael Richardson

It’s a pity they abandoned the 2D style of Burst. That game would have been brilliant with a more stable framerate.

  • Haruhasu

Indeed, what makes Burst my series favorite is the 2D beat’em up style.

The remake looks great, but to me it has lost all magic of Burst.

  • Laytonaster

Seems they’ve improved the animation as well in the little details (dem tongues).

  • Dewey Defeats Truman

Never got very into Burst but I might pick this up

  • Nanya

    Yay!
A buddy of mine wanted to get into the Senran Kagura series but wanted to start at one. This is perfect.

  • Malcolm_Ecks

I’d lay bait to troll ChocolateISISCream about a PC release but he’s gone now :(

  • artemisthemp

    All I need is Mirai

  • VLOCKUP

    What happened? He got banned?

  • I’m still hoping for a PS4 port of Shinovi Versus one day.

  • stullz

gone to work in the salt mines created by his own tears? :)

  • So I was off by a couple seconds :^)

  • Malcolm_Ecks

A while ago. He snapped and got actually mad.

  • Heresy Hammer

    Lmao, about what ?

  • Loli de 35 dias de vida

Not quite yet. They still haven’t got SK2

  • Extremely happy for all the Senran Kagura news, but is this Senrann Kagura, and Senran Kagura 2 Deep Crimson all together in one package or just the first game on the 3DS?

  • Matz

Great news, I liked the first game but after playing the rest of the series is kinda difficult to get back to that game specially for the framerate issues, the other good news is that we can finally have that game in a physical form if they release it in the west

  • Malcolm_Ecks

Usual shit. People making fun of him for being a very poor pro PS4 anti PC troll. In the end people would mention his name just to see him show up and get actually angry. He became a site wide meme and said something likely way over the line and got himself banned. He forgot that a lot of us GREW UP during the PS2/Xbox/NGC era where the console wars actually made people angry at a high level. We’re over it and make fun of those times.

  • lucben999

said something likely way over the line and got himself banned

He insulted someone’s waifu didn’t he? When will people learn?

  • Zack Attack

So is it the first game or both the 3DS games?

  • CDan

    Delicious Mirai

  • Matz

From what I understand, it’s only the first game, in Japan there are two Senran Kagura 1, the original and an updated version with extra story content, in the West we only got the updated version

  • MusouTensei

As someone who started the series with Burst (with no prior knowledge of the series, just saw that european cover and said “yeah, I want that”) this makes me very happy, I hope Deep Crimson will follow eventually as well.

  • Nope Naw

I liked Shinovi Versus when I played it, but was somewhat disappointed with the lack of enemy variations and such. The things the characters talked about in the cutscenes sounded much more interesting than what you actually got to fight in the game. Estival Versus seemed to be the same game all over again so I didn’t get it. Hard to tell if this going to follow the same formula, because I think you got to fight an actual monster at the end of the original game.

But if it’s just the same thing all over again… again, then I’ll pass.

  • Loli de 35 dias de vida

I’d recomend you get Senran Kagura 2 on the 3DS, that is the game the characters refeer to when they talk about their past experiences with Yoma. There’s a good variation of enemies, including many giant monster bosses, and it plays fairly diferent from the ‘Versus’ Games, and it”s the most cinematic of all SK games (with a few real-time cutscenes sprinkled here and there while Estival only had the intro an ending.

  • Loli de 35 dias de vida

wow. where was I while all this was happening? O_o

  • ::Crosses fingers for a Switch port of those two Senran Kagura games:: 😄

  • Chocolate ISISCream

    Wow FUCKING NICE!

  • Zack Attack

Oh ok, I still need deep crimson then on 3DS. Oh well, at least I don’t have to settle for a digital only option this time.

  • LostGryphon

I should replay burst…the side-scrolling was kinda neat. Will be cool to see the story retold in 3d though.

More Homura is always good. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e26a7753b1949522f60e7658f7c4608c6be710a55be3de8cb0823db0c45291a4.jpg

  • sanic

I actually really enjoyed it as a side scroller.

  • tibarion

I mean logically Deep Crimson will eventually be remade for the PS4 as well.

  • patyos

    WELL TIME To replay BURST

NOW give us SK 2 Deep Crimson RE:NEWAL !!!

  • patyos

Would recommend Senran Kagura 2 Deep Crimson thats the one most people regard as a masterpiece.

  • tccboss

    same here.

  • tccboss

    just the first game.

  • tccboss

I know a lot of people don’t like it but SV is a good starting point too.

  • So much good Senran Kagura news today. Beautiful.

  • Pfft! “Journalist”

  • Homura.

  • Ruggarell

These games are mediocre as hell I like the Senran Kagura Anime/characters but the games suck.

  • Nanya

Dunno why, it’s a solidly good game.

  • Chocolate ISISCream

I fucking loved Burst. Put a heck of a lot of hours into it and went through hell at the time to just to get my 3DS running homebrew to play it. This remaster, which is exclusive to PS4, will do the game great justice. I remember having to play this game overclocked most of the time.

  • HowlJenkins

Nice? You were a whiny little cunt about this a few months ago

    http://disq.us/p/1gk5sms

  • Chocolate ISISCream

Although he didn’t specifically state PC, I’m sure he was only referring to PC when saying he wanted the port.

But the exact opposite has happened, where the port is a PS4 exclusive now, and I’m extremely happy about that.

  • Rhaksas

    Hikage.
