Darksiders 3 Officially Announced for PC, PS4, and Xbox One

Earlier this morning we reported on a leak for Darksiders III, and now THQ Nordic has officially announced the upcoming threequel.

The game will launch sometime next year across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Featured above, you can view the announcement trailer for the coming sequel.

Here’s a rundown on the game, via THQ Nordic:

Return to an apocalyptic planet Earth in Darksiders III, a hack-n-slash action adventure where players take on the role of FURY in her quest to hunt down and dispose of the Seven Deadly Sins. The Charred Council calls upon Fury to battle from the heights of heaven down through the depths of hell in a quest to restore humanity and prove that she is the most powerful of the Horsemen. As a mage, FURY relies on her whip and magic to restore the balance between good and evil. The expansive, Darksiders III game world is presented as an open-ended, living, free-form planet Earth that is dilapidated by war and decay, and overrun by nature. FURY will move back and forth between environments to uncover secrets while advancing the Darksiders III story.

IGN is going to have a month-long roster of coverage for the game with their “IGN First” feed, beginning with the above trailer.

  • NukeA6

This game must be a lot of hype because there’s two articles of it.

  • Madbrainbox

I hope that whip is a lot of fun to use.

  • Utterly happy that this is happening. Had almost given up hope.

  • Captain Vidya

Looking forward to seeing what Fury can do. I always liked mage-type characters, so this will be interesting.

  • 2501

This is amazing news, I hope Michael Wincott makes an appearance, he was perfect as Death.

  • artemisthemp

Gonna get this on day one and hope Strife are in the Darksiders 4

  • Fear Me I Am Free

Was about to say. They better do another game since there are 4.

  • Brad Donald

War is war, Death is death, Fury is….wait which horsemen is FURY, she does not have the BOW pestilence should have and does not fit with the Scales of famine? I see balance in her description. So is she Pestilence?

  • artemisthemp

Hope the Trophies in 3 is just Hard, Normal and Easy

  • Lucky

Never got the hype for Darksiders. First one just felt like meh.

  • MusouTensei

Wasn’t it originally planned that Strife and Fury share the 3rd game? And since when has it become about to be the most powerful horeseman? All 4 are necessary to save mankind.

  • catazxy

Shit, now I really have to finish the second one

  • NukeA6

The first one was lacking but it had potential to be better. The second one did just that.

  • Mr0303

That whip thingy could be the scales.

  • Mr0303

The first two games were great.

  • BurntToShreds

I’m hoping so too. Back around the time Darksiders 2 came out I was genuinely worried that Darksiders 3 was going to be a predictable and 4-player co-op affair, since that was rather popular at the time, and Fury and Strife wouldn’t get heir time to shine. Now I’m worried that by the time we get around to Darksiders 4 that horrible co-op trend will come back.

  • artemisthemp

Hopefully the game won’t freeze while driving over zombies or not save :p

  • Eden

Something’s telling me to stay far away from this game…I just wonder how long until I’m proven right

  • Eden

I would’ve rather seen Strife than Fury honestly. But I guess Fury fits the modern gaming industry of tits + action = “badass!” I’ll pass…

  • sanic

Hope it’s more fun than 2 something about that game was very dull.

  • Mothman

Holy shit I was just talking about this game the other day! (in theory) Fuck yeah FURY!

  • Nagato

Takes place during the other two games… again. They can honestly piss right off if they still aren’t gonna progress the story beyond the first game’s cliffhanger.

  • Pocketmarmots

I think she’s a weird replacement for Famine.

The thing that gets me is that the fourth one uses guns, which would make a lot of sense for a gritty remake of Conquest, but for some ungodly reason he’s called “Strife.”

  • Fenrir007

    This franchise deserves more games.

  • InfectedAI

Your tits remark is funny considering people are pointing out her outfit has been seriously toned down.

  • InfectedAI

As does every other game with a leak followed by an official confirmation.

  • InfectedAI

The fourth will probably be similar.

  • InfectedAI

A hack and slash with a magic focus could be very cool, but I think her whip will make up most of the combat.

  • BubbaHoTep

I believe the third game was supposed to include all 4, with the player switching between them when needed.

  • AuraMaster DX (austin9568)
  • BubbaHoTep

Happy to see a third game, but I hope they change Fury’s design. Her look in the comics was just overall better. Now she looks like a generic mid-boss or something.

  • James Hewitson

If only the second one wasn’t so dam buggy/broken i would have enjoyed it alot more, are the deathitive editions any better?

  • Anonymoose

I too think it is lame they changed Famine and Pestilence. As though they didn’t think they were cool or hip as Death and War.

  • Jumanji Joe

Why am I getting the feeling this is going to be full of feminist pandering?

  • Nalferd

Hey man if you get other info about this possibility it would be really helpful. The game looks good tbh but if that is the route they will take then…

  • Envy Noson

would go bankrupt again. Because I’m not buying it.

  • Brad Donald

I looked up the symbolism of the horsemen. Famine is not just famine it can also be conquest, also the famine is represented by balancing scales of government taxes on necessitates. Famine is also representative of government oppression etc. It makes sense in the larger picture. Strife is most likely pestilence and it fits when you read the works ups on the symbolism also the weapon of that horse men is the bow. They also lump the symbols of the HORSE the ride in with the RIDERS.

  • Brad Donald

Strife is actually most likely pestilence. The BOW is the weapon of pestilence. FAMINE is represented by scales of balance, and the horse represented government oppression. And they lump the horse symbolism in with the riders in the games.

  • Madbrainbox

She’s wearing high heels so that’s already a step in the right direction.Feminists don’t like that.

  • ProxyDoug

That’s the most animated a face has ever been in this franchise.

  • MusouTensei

No I think that was planned as the 4th an final game.

  • Meittimies

First one was kinda bland. Second one was better but they clearly ran out of time after the 2nd world. And not a fan of the Warcraft 3-esque visual style. So this third one has a lot to fix.

  • Pocketmarmots

Well, a whip might be representative for oppression, so at least Fury still has that.

And I think you’ll find that Pestilence is also called Conquest.

  • Joel Leonheart

….Why does she look different from the few comic’s??…

Hnmm I like Darksiders but gonna wait for actual gameplay etc. Can’t allow to be hyped only to get burned badly…

  • Deathtone

    Looks like a PS3 game

  • Cats736

    What are you suggesting?
