Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 Announced for Arcades, PC, PS3, and PS4

Arc System Works has announced Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2.

The new and updated version of their fighting game will release across PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and arcades in Japan. Arc System Works is planning to release the game in arcades first sometime this spring.

Featured above, you can view the game’s reveal trailer, which confirms both Answer and Baiken as playable characters. Also planned are balancing, new story content, online mode upgrades, a free-to-play tutorial, and even new abilities for existing playable characters.

The company is going to offer the new content via a low-priced update to owners of the original Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator. There will be a physical and a digital release of the game in Japan for PS4, also set at a price lower than standard game retail.

Finally, a location test is planned from January 20th to the 22nd in Tokyo.

Is this the first time they’ve done releases on every platform at once? No waiting for a PC port or for the game to be moved from arcades to other platforms.

  • Uncle Ocelot

I guess I’ll wait for this version then.

  • Llama Adventure

    ArcSys you fucking lunatics

  • Maria Maasaa

I have been WAITING for Baiken to come back. I lost touch with her after X2 due to playing other characters but I’m glad to get back into the seat with her.

So 2 new characters justifies another fully priced iteration of the game. After buying Xrd (the butchered European version nonetheless) and Revelator I think this is where I draw the line. The story was pretty much complete in my view so I don’t think they’ll add anything substantial.

  • InkBrush

Arc: Gotta milk the idiots before they catch onto our shit.

  • gwadahunter2222

The only interest for the 2 previous one is the animated movie (story mode)

  • gwadahunter2222

They plan to release a low price update for the Revelator’s owner. I don’t have Xrd sign how is the European version butchered ?

  • Miguel Angel Opazo Arancibia

God damn, i missed Baiken so much. She is so gorgeous and badass !

  • Mr0303

I’m a bit sceptical how “low price” the update will be considering how much they charge for the DLC characters (around 6 quid a piece).

The European version of Xrd was digital only, didn’t receive any updates (including balance changes) and the DLC characters weren’t available.

  • gwadahunter2222

I knew the European was digital only but I didn(t know it wasn’t updated, I will buy Xrd sign on PC when it will be in promotion on steam.

  • Etherblaze

Baiken kicks stupid amounts of ass. Glad she’s back.

  • Uncle Slick

Don’t care about GG anymore after they changed Jam’s voice.

  • Matz

And I’ve recently bought Xrd Revelator -_-

At least they’re giving a way to update the game without the need to pay $60 bucks for just 2-3 characters and few new scenarios, I guess the low sales of Central Fiction made them realize that people are getting tired of their stupid sales practices

  • Chocolate ISISCream

    Bridget when?

  • Migi

These kinda business practices completely killed fighting games for me.

you mean releasing a bunch of extra content after the game is out? yeah… That’s why I wait until everything is done and they have a “full package” before buying the game. I waited for DoA5 Ultimate (just got the 3 characters of Last Round because I don’t have a PS4), Naruto Shippuden 3 full Burst. etc.

  • Migi

I’ve taken the same approach with western games and their DLC but ARC systemsoft is really overdoing it with their full release with barely any extra content.

  • Zero Eternity

Oh Central Fiction actually failed to sell?

  • Lea Pastillaroja

Oh yeah becuase releasing the same game over and over a game with 2 extra character has never ever been done before in fighting games

  • Migi

I know it has been done before but it is reaching a boiling point nowadays with all the DLC and cheap ass tactics.

  • Wade Wilson

You forgot Ultra Street Fighter 2 which comes out shortly!

  • Dubaddict-ND

i think capcom paved the way with their garbage and other people follow suit… this is what happens when people praise street fighter too much sadly..

  • Dreiko

His weapons are business cards too.

  • Dreiko

This is a patch, you can get it for 2000 yen (bout 20 bucks) if you own revelator.

  • Dreiko

PC was never included as a platform from the get, it was an afterthought. They always released the game simultaneously in all the trailer-announced-platforms.

  • Dreiko

2000 yen is the price for the JP upgrade (roughly $20). Also all the dlc chars were free to download for everyone even if you didn’t own the game, for an entire week per char.

  • Mr0303

That’s not too bad price wise. We’ll see in what form it will come to Europe.

“Also all the dlc chars were free to download for everyone even if you didn’t own the game, for an entire week per char.” – are you talking about Xrd? That wasn’t the case in Europe. Kum was always paid DLC.

  • Dreiko

Ahh, sucks to be in Europe, we never even got chrono trigger until the DS remake lol. Move to america or Japan like me! :D

  • Mr0303

Nah, I’m fine right where I am.

  • 2501

Central Fiction sucks, like look at that character roster. It’s complete overkill.

  • Lea Pastillaroja

the only thing DLC changed is the fact that Ark System Works didn’t have to create more than 2 overcomplicated subtitles for Guilty Gear by making new editions with 2 new characters, they just made them DLC
Had it not been for te online capabilities of current consoles
    We would have had:
