Christopher Poole, also known as moot, has announced the new owner of 4chan, Hiroyuki Nishimura.

2channel (often referred to as 2ch), can be considered the forefather of all image boards, as without the existence of 2ch.net image boards as we know today would probably not exist.

This seems to be a mixed move. On one hand, Hiroyuki Nishimura has been around for years and is probably the most well versed on image and text board culture. On the other hand, he’s had a sour history with the 2ch community, where when it was hacked it was revealed that he kept user data without giving an explanation as to why.

It’ll be interesting to see how 4chan will be affected by this, and if he brings any major changes to the incredibly popular image board.
