A Wii U Animal Crossing game is potentially in development, if the words of series director Hisashi Nogami are anything to go by.

In an interview with Engadget, the question regarding a home console version of the game came up, following talk of their newly launched Wii U game, Splatoon (which he produced).

They came right out and asked when they would see an Animal Crossing game on Wii U, to which Nogami replied:

Nogami: “Well, that’s difficult for me to answer at the moment! Yup. That’s pretty much all we can say.

“What I will say is that you may have seen an announcement recently about an Animal Crossing product coming out on the 3DS… I can tack that on to the end of my response.” (Editor’s note: he’s talk about Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer)

Next month we’ll be attending the yearly Electronic Entertainment Expo. Prior to this, Nintendo is hosting a Nintendo Direct tomorrow – perhaps Nintendo will reveal this game at either of these events?
