Developed by Flicker Point Studio, newly revealed first-person psychological horror game Zangyou takes place inside a Tokyo skyscraper after hours.
“Zangyou” refers to overtime work in Japanese, and the entire premise plays directly into that lonely late-night office atmosphere.
You take control of someone trapped on the 32nd floor after an earthquake suddenly hits the building. Things quickly spiral out of control when the tower’s AI system, known as MirAI, becomes hostile. Exits are sealed, hallways begin shifting, power cuts in and out, and the building itself starts feeling more like a living maze than an actual workplace.
What makes Zangyou stand out is how restrained its horror appears to be. Rather than relying heavily on monsters or gore, the game focuses on liminal spaces and psychological pressure. Empty meeting rooms, surreal spaces that should not exist inside the tower, and endless silent corridors create a constant feeling of unease.
Some sections even carry strong backrooms-like energy, especially when environments begin subtly changing without explanation. One of the most disturbing ideas in the game comes from its service robots. Instead of aggressively attacking, these machines slowly patrol the building in near silence, approaching with calm mechanical movements that feel strangely unnatural in the empty office setting.
Gameplay revolves around exploration, puzzle solving, and survival while MirAI tightens its control over the tower. You will restore power, unlock new routes, manipulate systems, and slowly descend toward the ground floor in hopes of escaping.
The initial Early Access release is planned as a smaller 1.5 to 2-hour experience, with the developers aiming to expand the full version later based on community feedback. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game is currently listed as “Coming Soon” on Steam with support for both English and Japanese alongside full controller support.
