Japanese composer and creator Yuzo Koshiro has announced the official title for his next game is Earthion, a new shooter for Sega Genesis / Mega Drive.
“Happy to unveil the official title ‘Earthion (Japanese: アーシオン)’ for our MD/Gen shmup currently in development,” Koshiro said. “As the Earth gracefully rotates beneath our iconic logo on the title screen that pays homage to that era, immerse yourself in an unmatched level of coolness like never before.”
The new shooter is being developed by Koshiro and Ancient Corp, the indie developer run by him and his family. Further details on the new shooter are scant, although we did get some new footage of it in action.
Here’s a short clip of the new shooter in action, on native Sega Genesis / Mega Drive hardware:
The veteran composer and developer did tease a physical release, noting there has been “a lot of inquiry regarding the physical release” and that they haven’t made decisions – though he “really hopes” to release it in cartridge format.
Lastly, Koshiro noted porting the game to modern consoles is on his wish list, but their primary focus is to make the game for the original Sega Genesis / Mega Drive hardware, first.
