Yutaka Yamamoto (Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid, Fractale, and Wake Up, Girls!) has launched a crowdfunding campaign for a new anime project.

Mahou Shoujo-tachi (tentative title, Magical Girls) aims to be a dark fantasy. The projects key visual (below), shows Yamamoto’s inspiration: the arson attack on Kyoto Animation in July of this year.

Yamamoto states that he wants the film to “change anime”, and send a message to others in the industry. Further, Yamamoto stated he could not forgive the evil “madness” that caused him the loss of a friend, and is seeking to defeat it through animation.

The project is live right now on Campfire (a Japanese crowd funding website), and is seeking ¥10 million (roughly $92,700), and will end in 28 days. Funds will also be used in producing a two to five minute pilot, that will be completed in April 2020. As of this time of writing, the project is 22% funded.

Previously, Yamamoto had successfully funded Hakubo, exceeded its ¥15 million goal, raising over ¥21 million. It premiered in Fukushima on May 24th, before being screened around Japan on June 21st.
