Straight from the post-mortem talk that Yu Suzuki, the creator of Shenmue, officially held at this year’s Game Developers Conference, we’ve learned that the famed ex-Sega creator still has some things up his sleeves.
During his talk, Suzuki announced that he would like to finally make Shenmue 3 and finish the saga that has been left incomplete for years, but only with the “right opportunity.” Things got really interesting after his talk, when he had an interview with the folks over at Eurogamer.
Naturally, they pressed him to see what he meant by wanting to make the third game in the series with the “right opportunity.” They asked him whether or not he was considering crowd funding for the title, specifically mentioning Kickstarter as a viable avenue for getting the necessary funds. To this, he replied “Yes. I am researching it.”
Now, before you go and start celebrating by donning your official licensed Hazuki Tiger hoodie, Suzuki would not commit to saying that he is actively pursuing Kickstarter as an option to make Shenmue III a reality. He re-iterated the previous statement of him simply “researching it,” therefore he is definitely not in the middle of negotiations or anything.
So what is he working on now? I hate to burst your bubble, but he simply wouldn’t talk about that either. “Just now, I don’t have anything I can say yet,” he said with a smile. “I can’t announce anything right now, but I’m making something.”
