The official Japanese website for Ys IX: Monstrum Nox has gone live, revealing lots of information about the RPG (Translation: Gematsu).
The section on the “world” of Ys IX included a video showing off the environments you can find below:
The segment also includes a “prologue” of sorts, as an except from “Baldeux’s Cell.”
“I became someone other than myself. Have you ever had that kind of dream? I think about myself in that dream. Is this me, or not? Are dreams reality, or is reality a dream? I’ve reached an awfully simple answer. “Whichever is fine.” Which is true – or which is not true. Both are reality.”
The segment then moves onto talking about Baldeux “The Prison City,” earning its name due to the huge prison within the city and elements of an old fortress still being visible.
It is one of the major cites of Gllia Eldlingen- which is a province of the Romun Empire located in the northeast Esterior peninsula.
Baldeux acts as a key transport hub. The city is lined with inns, bars, and shops for travelers and commerce. In recent years, facilities such as theaters and public bathhouses are also being built.
You can find some more images of the city below:
The city has recently been suffering “disturbances” caused by “Monstrum”- people with mysterious powers and strange clothes. They appear leaderless, and while some help the poor, others openly kill people on the street. Due to the latter and their powers, the people of Baldeux fear them.
The aforementioned Baldeux Prison is the largest prison in the Romun Empire. Originally a fortress, it went under reconstruction to now function as a prison. With only a drawbridge for access, the steep walls, and deep moat surrounding the prison, escape is said to be impossible.
The prison once held political prisoners- those critical of the Romun Empire. As such, the residents have a very poor opinion of the prison even now. You can find images on the prison below:
The website also went into details about the characters from the game. White Cat (battle style: hand-to-hand) is a chivalrous Monstrum thief, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor of Baldeux. Despite how the people usually react to Monstrum, she talks to the residents frequently and shows off with her nimble and flashy performances.
She uses her flexible cat-like body for fast strikes with her hand-to-hand combat style.
Another Monstrum by the name of Hawk also lives in Baldeux. He calls himself “Heaven’s Justice”- going as far as killing people in the streets. He goes out of his way to start fights with “extreme battle enthusiasts” and start trouble in other ways.
Combined with his drinking habit, even other Monstrum have trouble cooperating with him. In battle he uses dual-swords.
Finally, the website delved into the abilities the two character had. White Cat can run up vertical walls by using Heaven’s Run, opening up more pathways and discovering secrets.
Meanwhile, Hawk can use Hunter’s Glide to, well, glide. Done from a high place, you can cover a lot of ground. You can even use this in battle to launch sneak-attacks from on-high.
You can find the official website here.
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is launching in 2019 in Japan for PlayStation 4.
