You’ll Be Able to Fully Ghost Through Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Bosses Included

Earlier this month, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was confirmed to be in development. While Deus Ex: Human Revolution was well received, the biggest complaint was easily the notorious boss fights, and how you couldn’t “beat” them without violence, or as many stealth game fans call it, “ghosting.”

Thankfully, Human Revolution had this issue fixed in its post launch “Missing Link” downloadable content, but naturally the question has been raised again with the new game in development. Over on his personal Twitter, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided director Jean-Francoise Dugas has been polling questions from the fans.

When asked by a fan if Mankind Divided could be fully ghost-able, Dugas responded:

“As always and even on boss side, finally!”

Some other fun tidbits from his responses include the fact that conversation boss battles are returning, the camera will function similarly to Human Revolution, and that Eidos Montreal is also implementing the “Give me Deus Ex” mode (hard mode) again, which is not quite like the 1999 mode from the Bioshock series, but similarly difficult. Finally, Dugas hinted at a New Game+ mode being possible, although he said “I would love it, we’ll see.”

What’s more, in the latest issue of Game Informer, Dugas talked up how the team regretted the original approach to bosses in Human Revolution:

“This is where we failed it. It was always in the plans to allow players to approach the bosses in a number of different ways – to be stealthy, to go full combat, nonlethal, hacking – that was always in the plans for Human Revolution. So for us, it wasn’t a discovery that ‘Oh my God, people don’t like the boss fights!’ It was never our intent to do them the way we did them.”

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is currently in development for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. In case you missed the debut cinematic trailer for the game, you can find that here.
