Level-5 recently confirmed Yo-Kai Watch 3 for the Nintendo 3DS and surprisingly, it’s going to take place in the United States, with protagonist Keita moving there with his family. However, a new report from 4Gamer has given us some insights into the game, and that it might take place in Japan, as well.
The new season of Yo-kai Watch will undergo a big shift with both the game and the anime adaptation – we’ve known this to be Keita moving to the United States. The reasoning behind this is because his father has to transfer to the country, due to his job.
Keita moves into the town of St. Peanutsburg, USA (a fictional town). He brings the popular yo-kai partners Jibanyan and Whisper, however, Keita is going to meet lots of new yo-kai as he adventures through the new landscape, while solving mysteries.
Here’s where things get interesting, the 4gamer report mentions a new protagonist, Inaho Misora. She’s friends with the USApyon yo-kai, although she is living in Sakura New Town, the main city of previous games in the series. An avid-otaku herself, Misora will be adventuring and solving mysteries as well.
While this hints at Misora being another protagonist, it’s not quite clear how big her role in the new season is. Maybe players will be able to choose between the two in the upcoming sequel? 4gamer also mentions that lots of new characters will be involved in the new story, so look forward to that.
The Yo-Kai Watch is also getting a big change, in the form of an upgrade:
The new prototype for the Yo-Kai Watch is known as the ”Yokai Watch U Prototype,” in the next game. With this new gadget, both Keita and Inaho will meet new yokai as well. Level-5 mentioned that post-launch, free updates will be coming to the game.
Yo-kai Watch 3 is currently in development for the Nintendo 3DS.
