Yacht Club Games Working on 3D Game, Possibly Multi-Platform and with Online Features

Yacht Club Games

Yacht Club Games (Shovel Knight) are seeking new staff for their first 3D game, which may be multi-platform and use online features.

The news comes via a job listing on Gamasutra, asking for a “Mid-Senior Gameplay Programmer.” The listing specifically mentions “Yacht Club Games is working on a new 3D project and is building out our 3D team (and custom engine) to complement our existing 2D team.”

They are seeking an individual who is “proficient in C and C++ programming languages;” preferably having experience with multi-threading, low level debugging and optimization, writing multi-platform code, GPU programming (such as graphics shaders and computing), network programming, UI programming, and build systems.

Based on this, the 3D game in question would be multi-platform, and feature some form of online element (due to the network programming). Of course, this project is likely to be very early in development, so what few details we know and suspect could change.

Yacht Club Games are best known for the 2D platformer Shovel Knight games, as well as publishing Cyber Shadow and Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack on Nintendo 3DS; both 2D games.

As such, this would be Yacht Club Games first venture into a 3D game. Will they be able to bring their expertise to 3D? We will keep you informed as we learn more.
