Bakumatsu Rock, the visual novel/rhythm game mash up that is set during Japan’s Bakumatsu period, is essentially the male version of Hatsune Miku. Alright, it’s much more than that, but you get the idea – it’s got lots of music, lots of charm, and lots of lyrics as well.
Unfortunately for those fans who were expecting and or hoping for it to get localized – that doesn’t seem to be in the cards. In a response to our friends over at Siliconera, XSEED’s vice president, Ken Berry, had this to say:
“If Marvelous AQL registered it, that probably has to do with the anime. We don’t have any plans to do that title. Xseed is not bringing over Bakumatsu Rock. It’s like a visual novel with way too many Japanese characters to translate.”
If his response is a bit confusing, it’s because Marvelous AQL actually filed a trademark for Samurai Jam: Bakumatsu Rock in the United States last month. So either they’re getting another publisher to localize the game, or it’s purely a misunderstanding for the anime coming west.
Berry’s response didn’t stop there, however, as he slipped out a tease for an unannounced Playstation Portable game:
“We actually have another PSP title that we haven’t announced yet…”
So what could it be? Is it another one of the games within the Legend of Heroes series?
