The Official expansion to the reboot of the XCOM series, XCOM: Enemy Unknown has been announced for a November 12th release. Its official title is XCOM: Enemy Within and is being developed by Firaxis Games.

The expansion brings a myriad of new content to an already deep game. It offers Gene mods to alter your soldiers physical capabilities in battle, a Cybersuit described as a “MEC” which resembles the suits worn by the Terrans in starcraft except with flamethrowers and grenade launchers attached to them to more easily dispatch the hoards of aliens you will encounter in the whopping 47 new maps.

New weapons and equipment are going to be available along with new Alien enemies and a new resource called MELD. The only enemy announced so far is called a Mechtoid with more to come as it creeps closer to release. They’ve also announced new multiplayer content and maps, described as a “Fresh new gameplay experience” on the launch site.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown was a very pleasant surprise for many people and this expansion looks to make a great game even better. I’ll be one of the first to sign up in the next battle to save humanity this November and it looks like it’s going to be one helluva good time.
